Apothecary

Hi Again fellow herbal enthusiasts,
Today I finally got to filter out my infused oils! It’s always an exciting but gut wrenching moment when you check to see if they have turned out. It turns out that my two herbal hair oils turned out beautifully. The rosemary, lavender and nettles oil is a gorgeous green colour and the smell is herbal and invigorating. I put some on my scalp and immediately I feel more alert. My head sometimes gets a little dry so the oil was a welcome balm.
After this I filtered out the chamomile and calendula oil. It is a golden yellow colour. The scent is a soft apple-like chamomile fragrance mixed with the warm tones of the calendula. This one’s for lighter hair and has a softer feel.
Lastly I went to do my St. John’s wort herbal oil but I could tell right away that something was wrong. It had an off smell and it was sludgy. I decided that I definitely cannot use this oil even though it breaks my heart not to have it for my apothecary. But better luck next time! I will review my notes and try to see what went wrong.
On a side note I recently attended a herbal medicine workshop with Wild root botanicals. I recommend them for the wealth of information they shared and also their fun teaching style!

Currently I am making three herbal oil infusions:
Rosemary, nettle and lavender herbal hair oil. I have picked the rosemary and lavender and I can’t believe the aroma! So invigorating! My next job is to cut up the needles. I will keep you posted. My plan is to make a herbal hair serum that helps to soothe dry and irritated scalp.
Rosemary has anti-inflammatory properties, improves blood circulation to the scalp, and helps heal the nerves in your scalp. It also promotes hair growth, win win!
Lavender is also anti-inflammatory and soothes the scalp, It contains vitamins that nourish the hair. Lastly nettles are amazing for the hair, they have lots of vitamins and minerals that promote healthy hair.
i am going to add some wonderful essential oils to my hair serum. I recently got new Australian aromatherapy oils. My favourite is the honey myrtle.
lavender and rosemary
Calendula and chamomile infusion with grape seed oil.
St.Johns wort flowers drying that I put into an infusion.
